The World-Tree
This is not a forest of many trees, but a single tree that is a world. N'baba Doff is one colossal organism, its roots anchored deep in the core of Yavar, its highest branches scraping the thin, cold air of the upper atmosphere. The 'ground' here is merely the widest of branches, and 'valleys' are the spaces between them. Sunlight is a currency, and the entire ecosystem is a vertical struggle for dominance and life.
The D'gongins
The D'gongins are the lifeblood of the World-Tree. They are a powerful primate race of savage strength and fierce tribal loyalty. Their bond with the Kathulgars—sabre-toothed predators of the canopy—is not one of master and pet, but of mutual respect between two apex hunters who hunt as one. They build no cities of stone, instead carving their homes directly into the living wood of the tree, their society as organic and interconnected as the branches they live upon.
The Law of the Canopy
In N'baba Doff, there is only one law: height is life. The strongest tribes claim the 'Sun-Drenched Court' at the very top, living in an abundance of light and fruit. Weaker tribes are forced down into the 'Gloom,' the perpetual twilight of the middle branches, where resources are scarce and dangers are many. The lowest of all, the exiled and the broken, are cast down to the 'Root-Tangle' at the base of the tree—a dark, fungal hell of strange creatures and decay, from which no D'gongin has ever returned.
